What's Happening in Calgary This Weekend? | June 12–14

If you've looked out the window lately, you may have noticed Calgary is currently trapped in a bad relationship with rain. Fortunately, there are still plenty of reasons to leave the house this weekend.

While scattered showers are expected throughout much of June 12–14, there are a few breaks in the forecast worth taking advantage of. Friday looks to be the driest day, Saturday brings the usual Calgary weather roulette, and Sunday is currently shaping up to be the warmest day of the weekend, although if you've lived here longer than a week, you know that forecast may change before you've finished reading this sentence.

From night markets and tabletop adventures to vintage western fashion and delightfully ridiculous parades, here are five Calgary events worth checking out this weekend.

Inglewood Night Market

June 12 | 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM
10 Avenue & 10 Street SE
Free

One of Calgary's favourite summer traditions returns to historic Inglewood this weekend, and for once, the weather forecast isn't actively threatening us.

The Inglewood Night Market features local vendors, food trucks, live music, handmade goods, and a lively beer garden atmosphere. It's the perfect place to spend a summer evening supporting local businesses and discovering things you absolutely did not leave the house intending to buy.

As someone with the self-control of a Labrador retriever in a steakhouse, markets like this are incredibly dangerous for my bank account.

That said, if you're going to make questionable financial decisions, supporting local businesses is a pretty good way to do it.

Marda Loop Night Market

June 13 | 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM
34 Avenue SW between 18 Street & 19 Street SW
Free

Marda Loop Night Market is back, bringing together local makers, vintage vendors, food trucks, and live entertainment for an evening of shopping and community connection.

Personally, I plan on attending with the intention of "just looking around," which is the same lie I tell myself every time I end up leaving a market with handmade jewelry, a candle, and a snack I didn't budget for.

If you're looking to support local businesses while discovering some incredible Calgary talent, Marda Loop Night Market is worth adding to your weekend plans.

AärdCON

June 13 | 10:30 AM – 6:00 PM
Scandinavian Centre
Tickets: https://www.eventbrite.ca/o/aardcon-83320165853

As someone whose most recent tabletop gaming experience involved losing a game of Uno, I may not be the target audience for AärdCON.

That being said, even I can appreciate an event that brings together creators, artists, storytellers, gamers, and fantasy enthusiasts for a full day of workshops, speakers, competitions, vendors, and community.

Whether you're a seasoned Dungeon Master or someone who still thinks a d20 is a vitamin supplement, AärdCON offers a welcoming space to explore Calgary's thriving tabletop gaming community.

Buffoon Parade

June 14 | Starting at 10:00 AM
Elbow Park / Gerry Shaw Garden Area
Tickets: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/buffoon-parade-tickets-1988436596387

The Buffoon Parade might be the event I'm most qualified to attend this weekend.

Designed to spread joy, creativity, and playful chaos throughout Calgary, participants are encouraged to bring costumes, characters, puppets, bubbles, noisemakers, and anything else that sparks a little wonder.

Honestly, it sounds like the perfect opportunity to publicly embrace the level of silliness most of us are already operating at behind closed doors.

And if anyone asks why you're dressed as a wizard carrying a bubble machine downtown, you can simply explain that you're participating in the arts.

Vintage Rodeo 5.0

June 14 | 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
The Nines – 801 9 Avenue SW
Tickets: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/vintage-rodeo-50-tickets-1987029711356

Every year I tell myself I already own enough Stampede outfits.

Every year I am wrong.

Vintage Rodeo returns for its fifth year with curated western-wear vendors, custom hats, jewelry, live country music, line dancing, and plenty of inspiration for anyone currently staring at their closet wondering how they've accumulated so much denim while simultaneously having nothing to wear.

Whether you're shopping for a complete outfit or just looking for an excuse to spend a Saturday surrounded by great music and local vendors, Vintage Rodeo is one of the best ways to kick off country season in Calgary.

Make the Most of Your Weekend

One of the best parts of running Wake Up Calgary is discovering the people who are building this city into something more vibrant, creative, and connected.

Behind every market, convention, parade, and community gathering are local organizers, artists, musicians, entrepreneurs, and volunteers putting in countless hours to create experiences for the rest of us to enjoy.

Whether you're hunting for vintage western wear, rolling dice with dragons, blowing bubbles through downtown, or spending a little too much money at a night market (no judgment), this weekend is a great reminder that Calgary's culture is built by people willing to put themselves out there and create something.

So get out, explore something new, support a local event, and if you happen to see the Wake Up Calgary team wandering around pretending we're "working" while eating from a food truck, come say hi!

Have an event you'd like us to cover? We'd love to hear about it.

See you around the city.
